A Trailing Spouse No More!

I have been away from the blogosphere for far too long and believe me when I say this – I have missed blogging immensely. But the reason for my absence is a happy and exciting one. I have finally found full-time employment!!

Having secured a work permit sometime last year – no mean feat to be honest (will get around to a detailed post on this), I set about actively looking for work. The journey was disappointing and frustrating, with most firms and even recruitment consultants telling me forth right that they only wanted to hire South African citizens. Now one must remember that unemployment in the country is almost 25% and hence, I don’t really blame them for not wanting to hire foreigners. However, the rejections and refusals were disappointing nevertheless.

But as William Shakespeare aptly said  – “All’s well that ends well.” Despite the road blocks and the immense frustrations, my journey finally ended on a happy note. There was at least this one firm that was really keen on hiring me. And finally, after several rounds of discussions and negotiations, I finally started work in January!

The past few weeks have passed by in a whirlwind and I have been busier than ever before. Although I have been very bad with my blog updates so far, I will definitely make amends and try and post more frequently.

Until then – wish me luck in my new found role and much more!

  1. Wow, that’s awesome, Namrata. I’m so happy for you. I can’t wait to hear more about your journey toward securing a work permit, as I know better than anyone how difficult that is. You must be very determined! xxx

  2. Congratulations on your new job! Persistence pays and hope you are settling in well. Good luck with it. Finding work is hard but once you got a job, you can show the people around you what you can do and achieve 🙂

  3. Congrats, very happy for you. My partner ran into the same issues when he first started looking here even though he already had the visa. And I have been dealing with visa issues for more than 15 years so I understand how great it is when it finally works out. Best wishes for your new job.
