Erwin’s Parkmore – an old world dining experience

With K away at an office event last Friday, I suddenly found time for a perfect girly evening! It was on an impulse that I picked Erwin’s for dinner. Having exhausted eating options in the East Rand, my friend and I decided to venture further out and came across this quaint eatery, tucked away in Parkmore.

Erwin’s is an unassuming little restaurant, with a quiet charm and an old world air to it. The tables are beautifully laid out with actual tablecloths, proper cutlery and comfortable chairs that have arms! The staff is efficient, prompt and non-overbearing.

Great food and impeccable service are the main reasons for the restaurant’s loyal customer base. We were shown to our table as soon as we reached and were provided with menus immediately. Their fish came highly recommended and I ordered one of their specials – grilled Sea Bass with a lemon butter sauce. For starters I had asparagus with a butter sauce. My friend ordered deep fried mushrooms with tartar sauce and confit of duck for mains.

Each dish was beautifully prepared and the mains were served with large helpings of sides – potatoes, spinach, butternut and cabbage. The fish was grilled to perfection and just melted in my mouth while the flavours of the duck were simply divine. Having no room left for dessert, we could not try any unfortunately but I am told that they are equally good.

Although not an ideal place for a girls’ night out, Erwin’s is recommended if you are looking for a quiet evening out, a special celebratory dinner or simply for some good food and great service.
